Successive and alternate bounds are used when moving from one location to another in a group. As individuals, this maneuver is known as the cover and fire approach. That will be discussed in another section though.
 
The chart below illustrates both successive and alternate bounds.
 
When deciding which to use in combat note that successive bounding is faster.
 
To explain the bounding movements in a concise way:
 
Successive Bounds- Squad 1 moves to determined location, then covers squad 2 as they advance forward to the same location.
 
Alternate Bounds- Squad 1 moves to determined location as Squad 2 advances beyond them to provide overwatch. Squad 1 then advances beyond Squad 2 to switch role.
